Dan Welch was fastest of all in the second free practice session at Silverstone in his Proton Persona, a fraction off of Matt Neal’s qualifying record from last year.
The 30-year-old left it to the last minute to set a lap faster than Jason Plato’s MG, who had in turn taken over at the top from Mat Jackson, with Jackson having held P1 for most of the session.
The Motorbase Performance driver had an off due to an unknown problem and hit the Armco barrier with just under 15 minutes left in the session and was unable to rejoin.
Jason Plato and Honda’s Gordon Shedden both had separate spins at Luffield early on in the session, whilst a number of drivers were warned or excluded from the session for going wide at Copse and gaining an advantage on too many laps.
Those that were black flagged included Will Bratt’s Audi, Ollie Jackson’s Volkswagen, and Gordon Shedden’s and Andrew Jordan’s Hondas, the latter missing almost half the session as a result, whilst Adam Morgan, Chris James and Rob Collard received warnings.
The next session is qualifying which is due to start at 15:10 BST.
