Lea Wood expecting strong home support at Oulton
Joint Jack Sears Trophy leader Lea Wood says he hopes strong support at his home race of Oulton Park will spur him on to more success.
The JWT Performance driver is tied on three wins with Motorbase Performance’s Liam Griffin after Thruxton, and is looking forward to heading to a track where he has excelled in the past.
Wood has produced notable giant-killing performances in Cheshire before, both at the wheel of his current Vauxhall Vectra and the old BTC-specification Honda Integra.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes after Thruxton, Wood said: “Oulton Park is a local one for us and we are looking forward to that. A lot of people from Hereford will be coming up for that.
“We have got to take this performance straight into Oulton Park, get all the bits checked out and make sure the car doesn’t let us down.
“We have struggled for a bit of luck this year, so we had to try and stamp some authority on this weekend, which I think we did.
“It was a bit difficult at the start of the races as the Focuses are very fast, but if we could get a car between us and them we knew we could break away from them, and that’s what we did.”
It was also a weekend where Wood could mix it with some of the Next Generation Touring Car machinery.
He said: “The Audis were really struggling out the back, through the fast stuff, where the Vectra is quite good due to its long wheelbase. They were quite loose, so we could get a good run on them.”
