Thompson takes win in race 1

James Thompson has taken hold of victory in the first race of the new BTCC season. The Seat driver finished just ahead of pole sitter Gavin Smith. Matt Neal took the last podium spot in his Honda Integra R, coming from last place on the grid. He pasted Colin Turkington in the final stages of the race.

Two favourites for the title had to retire after a collision. Jason Plato attempt to overtake Colin Turkington but failed and got a little sideways. Unfortunately Fabrizio Giovanardi was unable to affoid a collision.

Gavin Smith was able to keep hold of the lead for quite a while, but just a view laps from home James Thompson managed to squize by and took a win in his first race after returning to BTCC, although he won’t be racing all rounds this year.
