Neal breaks Thruxton duck

Matt Neal has won the second of today’s (Sunday) three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at the Thruxton circuit in Hampshire.

Neal, in his Team Halfords Honda, took the lead at the start and was never headed as he went on to achieve his first ever race win at Thruxton.

Second was Neal’s team-mate Gordon Shedden, the winner of the day’s first race. Third was the Team RAC MG of Robert Collard who just kept ahead of Dave Pinkney – a shock fourth in the Motorbase team’s Honda and who set the race’s fastest lap.

The result means that Neal leads the championship by an increased margin of 38 points ahead of new second-placed driver Colin Turkington, who finished the race sixth in his RAC MG.

SEAT’s Jason Plato, meanwhile, suffered his second retirement in as many races after an on-track clash damaged his Leon.
