Thompson takes Croft Pole
James Thompson has claimed pole position for the first of three BTCC-races tommorow on the racing circuit of Croft in North Yorkshire. With a time of 1:26.213 on his hometrack, Thompson was just 0.039 of a second faster than Tom Chilton in the Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch.
Reigning BTCC-champion and current series leader Matt Neal was also a close pursuer with a time just 0.060 second slower than James Thompson. The entire top 11 drivers were within a second of eachother.
Neal’s closest rival in the championship, Jason Plato, will start alongside Neal in fourth position. Plato has to start making up ground to Neal, as the gap in the standings between the rivals is 45 points.
Another main contender for the championship, Colin Turkington, will start from 7th place. He has a gap of 33 points to close to Neal.
Newcomer Eoin Murray set a good performance with 14th place. He set a time of 1:27.956 in his Alfa Romeo 156, just over 1.7 second of the fastest man.
