Air threat won’t affect BTCC stars

Team RAC and Vauxhall have said that the UK’s airline terrorist threat will not affect their four overseas-based drivers and all will be racing in this weekend’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at Snetterton, Norfolk.

Northern Ireland’s Colin Turkington, currently second in the Drivers’ standings, last night managed to get a late flight from Belfast and arrived at Heathrow in the early hours of this morning, Team RAC has confirmed.

A Vauxhall spokesman this morning also said that three of its four drivers, Gavin Smith, Fabrizio Giovanardi and Erkut Kizilirmak (pictured above) had suffered delays but were soon to leave for the UK on flights from Ireland, Italy and Turkey respectively.

“We didn’t know last night if they would all be able to make it but everything now looks OK,” said the spokesman.
