Croft race 3: Giovanardi closes in

Fabrizio Giovanardi has won the third of today’s Dunlop British Touring Car Championship rounds at the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire to move within just two points of series leader Jason Plato.

Italian ace Giovanardi led all but the opening lap as he drove his Vauxhall Vectra to its fifth win this season.

SEAT driver Plato could finish only eighth and, as a result, his points lead as they head for Oulton Park, Cheshire on 24 June is down from 16 points to just two.

Finishing the race in second in his Team RAC BMW 320si was 20-year-old Tom Onslow-Cole who led the opening lap before being passed by Giovanardi.

Third was the similar, family-run car of another of the BTCC’s rising young stars, Mat Jackson.
