STOP PRESS! Shedden inherits race 1 win

Gordon Shedden has been declared the winner of the first of today’s three Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk.

Colin Turkington crossed the line in first place but his Team RAC BMW 320si was under weight, meaning the victory was handed to Shedden who had originally finished in second in his Team Halfords Honda Civic.

Turkington’s exclusion meant all those behind him were promoted a place. Second was his team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole, who had led the race’s opening laps, and third Vauxhall driver Tom Chilton who set the fastest lap.

In the title race, Vauxhall’s Fabrizio Giovanardi finished fifth to take three points out of series leader, SEAT’s Jason Plato who was eighth after running off at the track at the first bend in a collision with reigning champion Matt Neal’s Honda.

The gap between Plato and Giovanardi now is 22 points heading the second of today’s three races which is scheduled to start at 12.35.

Turkington will have to start that race from the back of the grid – with maximum ballast added to his car, despite his exclusion.
