Alan Gow pleased with S2000 rules

The boss of the British Touring Car Championship, Alan Gow, feels that the switch to S2000 rules has been a success. When Super Touring died in 2001 the BTCC decided to go with their own rules, called BTC. In 2004 the BTCC started to introduce S2000 cars in their championship while it was not until this year they decided to run these regulations as the main one and the BTC rules are left to die out.

“S2000 was the right way to go as borne out by the excellent entry list in our first season of using those sporting regulations. I am extremely impressed at how quickly our teams have adapted,” said Gow to Autosport.

Gow left the series at the point when Super Touring was over. In 2003 he returned and will stay until at least 2010.
“I have already pledged my alliance to the BTCC until 2010 at least and I am very proud to be leading this great British championship,” he said.

The BTC spec’ car will still be allowed in the championship next year, but they are not allowed to run for the overall title.
“Our very well-balanced technical regulations have also allowed the BTC-spec cars to remain competitive,” he said. “Those cars still offer potential privateers with a very cost-effective way of entering the BTCC.”
