Three cars teams in the 2008 BTCC

Top teams could run three cars in the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship!
Rumours have been circulating that VXR and WSR are considering running a third car alongside their two main drivers in the coming season. VXR are no strangers to running three cars as they did when they campaigned the Astra Sportshatch in the BTCC between 2003 and 2006.

In a recent article in a Belfast paper the ‘Sunday Life’ with Colin Turkington, it is reported as saying that:
“However, Turkington will have to get used to a new team-mate in 2008. Former Renault Clio champion Tom Onslow-Cole has moved on to join Vauxhall where he will drive the team’s third Vectra next season.”

Linked with this rumour is that Vauxhall have lost the Holiday Inn sponsorship that was brought to them by Gavin Smith in 2006, so this was another option to regain some revenue.

Assuming the story is correct, one can only expect that SEAT must also be considering a third car in a bid to help them regain the manufacturers title that they lost to Vauxhall in 2007 and a drivers title that they have only dreamed about!

Other teams are also rumoured to be looking at the logistics of running a third car. WSR are reportedly deciding whether to field a third car after talking to a number of interested drivers. Even suggesting that it could be run separate to Team RAC.
