CMS Motorsport eyeing BTCC entry

Whilst the major players in the BTCC have been negotiating deals for the 2008 season a couple of new teams have been trying to break into the top league of British motorsport.
News has come to TouringCarTimes that CMS Motorsport is one of those and has been looking at joining the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship in 2008.

Rumours have been circulating about the team’s intention of moving up after 3 years in the SEAT Cupra Championship.

Team boss Malcolm Cleland told TouringCarTimes: “Yes, we have looked at the logistics of joining the BTCC and now have the infrastructure in place to compete at this level

“We have identified two cars that would suit us. It’s just that there seems to be shortage of drivers with sensible budgets!

“We are not going to rush into it the move. When we do, we won’t be there to make up the numbers.”

In 2007 CMS Motorsport ran a multi car team of New Leon Cupra cars spearheaded by Carl Breeze. The team achieved 17 top five finishes which included 10 podium finishes with 4 wins for Carl Breeze on his way to 3rd place in the championship, just half a point behind the second placed driver Fulvio Mussi.

The team intends to return to the SEAT Cupra Championship in 2008 alongside the BTCC, which is where Malcolm Cleland really wants to be!
