Giovanardi goes from 8th to 1st in race 2
Fabrizio Giovanardi stormed from 8th on the grid to 1st within half the race on a track slightly damp from a light drizzle to extend his lead in the drivers championship. Giovanardi drove a faultless race, snatching the fastest lap and never being pressured by Plato who finished second behind him.
A slightly delayed start to the second race caused some confusion amongst drivers, commentators and fans alike when a decision was taken not to have a second formation lap. Andrew Jordan stalled his car on the grid just prior to the start of the race, which in usual circumstance would require a second formation lap and the offending driver to start at the rear. Andrew did however perform superbly as he had previously done in race 1 to finish 6th overall.
Jason Plato finished race 2 in second place having led from 1st on the grid, until Giovanardi put a move on him going into the Craner Curves on lap 5, his SEAT Leon TDI was no match for the Vauxhall VXR on the greasy track.
Matt Neal was unlucky to take a slight nudge with only 1 lap remaining, that ended his race and lost him a third position. His team mate Tom Onslow-Cole took the third spot, however he was narrowly missed by Gordon Shedden who’d been forced onto the grass nearly collecting the Vauxhall on his way back onto the track. Shedden recovered to finish 9th.
Erkut Kizilirmak had a dramatic end to race 2 when he lost grip on the Craner Curves sliding into the wall which caused a lot of damage to his Arkas Racing Vauxhall Astra, he did walk away however it looks unlikely he’ll be out for race 3.
