Onslow-Cole wins race 2 at Thruxton
Onslow-Cole was gifted another win at Thruxton in race 2 when Giovanardi who led from lap 7 suffered a puncture on the final lap, dropping him to 10th place. Onslow-Cole was on pole however a poor start saw him lose out to Turkington, Giovanardi, Neal and Turner. He battled back however and was set to take 2nd place but gained first because of Giovanardi’s bad luck during the final lap. The eventful race had 1 safety car period on lap 2 when Bell spun his Vauxhall Astra.
The second HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Thruxton was quite eventful. The first lap saw Onslow-Cole lose out after a poor start, Plato jump to 14th and Bell, Chilton and A. Jordan all spin in separate incidents. Bell triggered a safety car period and could not continue however both Chilton and Jordan were lucky to avoid any serious damage.
Onslow-Cole suffered a second poor start of the day allowing Turkington to make a move and take first position. Giovanardi, Neal and Turner also benefited in what started out a bad race for Onslow-Cole. That all changed however after Onslow-Cole passed Turner in a move that saw him three abreast with his team mate Neal and Turner. Onslow-Cole came out in front. He then passed Turkington’s BMW 320si for second on lap 16 to take second. On the final lap he was gifted first after Giovanardi suffered a puncture on his worn tyres.
Giovanardi had a great start to race 2, overtaking his team mate Onslow-Cole off the start and then earning first place from Turkington on lap 7. He then went on to lead every lap afterwards until the final lap when a puncture left Giovanardi hobbling to the finish in which he ended 10th.
Turner was unlucky in race 2 when he tried to take 2nd from Turkington he lost out. Neal and Onslow-Cole both took advantage demoting Turner to 5th and an eventual 4th place finish.
Plato made the best of a bad situation to finish 7th in race 2 after being demoted to the back for a ride height infringement in race 2. In the first lap alone he’d moved to 14th place before the safety car period.
