Plato wins final race at Thruxton
Jason Plato had a happy ending at Thruxton with a win in Race 3 after a turbulent start that saw the SEAT Sport UK driver penalised in race 1 for running too low. The final race saw plenty of overtaking, a very close battle for second position and further tyre failures as drivers struggled to manage the tyres on the fastest circuit of the BTCC season. Giovanardi leaves Thruxton still leading the championship
The third and final race at Thruxton was extremely entertaining with great close racing particularly at the front. Jason Plato won the race ahead of last years race 3 winner Mat Jackson. Plato was handed first position when Shedden suffered a second puncture of the day much to Shedden’s frustration.
Darren Turner was running in a strong third position however he also suffered a puncture eventually finishing 16th out of 17 cars that completed the race.
The biggest surprise of race 3 was that behind Plato three young independents fought hard. Leading the three was Andrew Jordon in his Honda Integra. Andrew showed his race craft and held onto second despite a number of side ways moments until he was given just a little nudge from Giovanardi. Jordan took the escape road and rejoined in 3rd position after Mat Jackson avoided any contact. Giovanardi was soon given the third position however when Jordan’s Honda suffered a mechanical problem forcing a retirement with only two laps remaining.
Mat Jackson fought hard with Andrew Jordan and Adam Jones to secure the second position behind Plato, followed by Giovanardi who finished in 3rd place. Adam Jones was unlucky to lose the chance of 3rd place when Jordan, Jackson and Jones all went three abreast. Jones lost out and Giovanardi put his VX Racing Vectra in front of Jones.
Onslow-Cole managed 7th taking points in all 3 races and proving his race craft with two race wins.
