Jason Plato takes a second win at Snetterton
Jason Plato has won the second race at Snetterton, starting in first he dominated the race. The result moves him into second place in the Championship standings. Only his team mate Darren Turner applied any pressure when on the first lap they got side by side with Turner looking like he may just have the edge. Turner then fought for second with Chilton before then sitting comfortably second until lap 16. At the end of a safety car period Turner suffered a puncture which resulted in him dropping down the order, as he limped round the entire track to the pits.
Race 2 was full of action especially in the earlier stages. Darren Turner and Tom Chilton initally fought hard for second with Turner winning the battle. Chilton then fought hard with Giovanardi. As 5 cars went side by side battling to get up front, Chilton tangled with Giovanardi. Giovanardi made a pass on Chilton however Chilton came back, nudging Giovanardi into a small spin pushing him off track.
Chilton fought well in the first part of the race however he took a puncture after his fight with Giovanardi dropping him out of contention at the front.
Giovanardi was not disheartened by his early off and came back in the race to finish in 3rd position after falling back as far as 14th, collecting vital points as Plato closes the gap in the championship. Giovanardi fought in the last couple of laps with Turkington for second position however Turkington held on despite the pressure of the championship leader trying to pass.
Matt Neal was lucky to finish 5th, like Giovanardi he also got tangled up during the race battling hard for a strong finish he was nudged however he regained control to finish only 5.674s behind the race lead.
Turkington’s strong result meant he finished first in the independents category giving Team RAC a great race weekend thus far after finishing 5th in race 1.
Rob Collard and Steven Kane continued to show their potential with 4th and 6th positions respectively to the delight of their Motorbase Team.
Jason Plato, after winning the race takes the responsibility of selecting the number that will form the final grid of the day. Number 8 is selected, meaning Shedden will start race 3 at the front.
