Plato gets 5th win of season in race 1

Jason Plato has won the first race of the day at Oulton Park. Having qualified on pole, the SEAT Sport UK driver got of the start well and led from start to finish. His race win was the 5th of the season more than any other driver this season. Team mate Turner did not start so well losing out to Tom Chilton off the start and then making contact later in the race to fall further down the field.

Tom Chilton started the race perfectly, moving in front of Turner off the start to split the two SEAT drivers. Turner’s SEAT Leon TDI was faster than Chilton’s Honda Civic on the straight so a few laps later Turner tried a move that failed. Turner touched Chilton slightly, resulting in a massive slide for Turner. Turner held the SEAT well however and carried on, losing 4 places to drop from 3rd to 7th.

Giovanardi made one place passing team mate Onslow-Cole, then benefit from Turner’s misfortune to take the final podium spot behind Tom Chilton.

Turkington had a great race, to win the independents category finishing 4th overall.

Matt Neal who had qualified in 7th position did not line up correctly on the grid after the formation lap, and as a result was given a drive through penalty. The penalty put Matt Neal to back of the field finishing 15th in the end.

Mike Jordon was having a superb race, having only qualified in 15th place, he carved his way through to 8th place by mid-race. His next target was Gordon Shedden who he actually passed on the pit straight, however Jordon made an unnecessary mistake to move across Shedden before he was clear. The contact pushed Jordon into a slide with the left front of the car taking heavy impact with the pit wall. The Honda Integra then bounced back across the track narrowly avoiding Adam Jones before coming to rest in the barriers on the opposite side of the pit wall.
