Jason Plato takes a second win at Knockhill

Jason Plato has won his second race of the day at Knockhill but rival Giovanardi finished in 2nd again limiting Plato’s chances in the championship. Giovanardi was able to easily keep up with Plato, and looked as though he could of gone faster however another second place will please Giovanardi who is still well ahead of Jason Plato in the drivers championship. Tom Onslow-Cole secured a second third place of the day. Local man Shedden held onto 4th place.

The race start was less dramatic than the first race with all cars safely through after one lap. Giovanardi initially put pressure on Plato however soon sat behind and followed Plato. Giovanardi’s second place allowed Plato to take only a small amount points away from him in the championship leaving a 35 point deficit for Plato to make up with little time to do it.

Darren Turner made the most of his SEAT Leon TDI carving through the back of the field having started in 18th due to clashes in the first race. By the end of lap 1 Turner had already made up 4 places. Turner continued his come back getting into the top 10 when he passed both Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan in quick succession.

In the final laps Turner closed on a group of 4 including Colin Turkington, Rob Collard, Mat Jackson and Gordon Shedden. He had the laps to get passed and towards the end of the race had looked on course to pass all of them. He’d passed Collard and was trying to go around the outside of Turkington, however Turkington ensured there was no more road and Turner was forced through the gravel. Collard took advantage now having more momentum than Turkington and took 6th place.

Mat Jackson held his 5th place ahead of Rob Collard in 6th, Colin Turkington in 7th and Darren Turner eventually crossed the line 8th, still an impressive performance given his starting position. He also recorded the fastest lap, on lap 7.

Andrew Jordan finished 9th to remain at least consistent and Matt Neal made the best of his starting finish to round off the top 10.

9 places swap around for the final race of the day with Andrew Jordan leading the race ahead of Darren Turner. Can Jordan better his previous best place finish of third? See the final race report here at www.touringcartimes.com to find out.
