Fabrizio Giovanardi gets back and wins

Fabrizio Giovanardi replied in the second race of the weekend at Silverstone with yet another win. Plato’s win of the first race had reduced the Italian’s lead to 30 points, but now it is back to 42 points.
“We changed the set up from after this morning’s race and the car was much faster. It was difficult to follow Jason and I was pushing to the maximum as I can’t afford to keep finishing behind him. For sure I had contact with both Turner and Jackson but that’s racing and I have to win,” said Giovanardi to BTCC.net.

Thanks to the win Vauxhall, provisionally, has secured its eight BTCC Manufacturers Championship title.

Colin Turkington finished almost three seconds behind Giovanardi in second. But the real attention was aimed to Adam Jones who took a very strong third place in his privately owned SEAT Léon.

Plato seemed to secure second place after a strong first part of the race. But at about half of the race his tyres started to fade and he quickly fell through the field. The SEAT-man finished seventh.

“We went for a full wet set up and we’re not quite sure why the tyres went off. The car lost grip and there was nothing that I could do,” said Plato.
