Jackson wins and Giovanardi is the champion
Mat Jackson won the first race of the final British Touring Car Championship race weekend of 2008. But main focus was on Fabrizio Giovanardi who secured the title as Jason Plato did not score enough points in fifth. Giovanardi finished 14th after damaging his Vauxhall Vectra, but it was enough and the Italian secured his second consecutive title.
Jackson crossed the line first after 26 laps and was two seconds ahead of pole-man Steven Kane, who had to settle for second. Robert Collard made it an all-BMW podium, finishing third, seven seconds behind Jackson.
Colin Turkington confirmed the BMW-dominance in fourth, with Jason Plato being the best non BMW-driver in fifth. Matt Neal clinched sixth ahead of Darren Turner, Tom Chilton, Tom Onslow-Cole and Andrew Jordan.
