Jason Plato had tea at WSR
It seems that Jason Plato not given up hope of competing in the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship after SEAT’s withdrawal from the championship at the end of the 2008 season.
In an interview with Autosport, Jason has admitted that he had “talked about a few things” with Dick Bennetts the team boss at WSR, and went onto say that the BMW and WSR are good enough to win the 2009 BTCC title.
Jason is reported to have visited the WSR headquarters last week for talks with the team.
Jason who won the BTCC drivers title in 2001 while at Vauxhall is looking at options to keep him in the 2009 championship for that second elusive title.
“I went to have a cup of tea with Dick. He’s an old mate and we talked about a few things.”
Plato said, “Dick runs a very tight ship and that BMW is a bloody good car. You just have to look at how the car was doing at the end of the season – not just the WSR cars, but with Mat Jackson and the Motorbase cars too.
“That car is potentially a championship-winning car and the team is certainly good enough to win a title as well.”
Dick Bennetts would only confirm that he “has spoken to a few drivers” about next year.
Some sources have suggested that Plato has also had converstions with Motorbase although no one can officially confirm this.
