Tom Coronel could join BTCC

Tom Coronel could be leaving the FIA World Touring Car Championship for 2009 and instead join the British Touring Car Championship. Due to the financial situation SEAT Holland could be lowering the funds for Coronel which mean him switching series.
“Everyone at SEAT is happy with the coverage that they get from their association with Tom, and they want that to continue,” said a source close to SEAT Holland to Autosport.

“But in terms of budget restrictions and the difficult economic situation, they are looking for a less expensive way to compete, and that could mean the BTCC. They would have a better chance of podiums and a lot of money could be saved in areas such as travel.”

According to Autosport talks have been started with teams SUNRED and GR Asia for the running of the car in the BTCC. Both teams have run his cars before.
