Giovanardi dominates Thruxton qualifying
Back from the crash during practice – Fabrizio Giovanardi took pole position at Thruxton! The Italian just had one flying lap, but his time – 1:17.985 – was unbeatable. His team mate Matt Neal was second, a full three tenths behind Giovanardis flying lap time. Jason Plato showed that he is still on form and that the Chevrolet Lacetti suits the fast Thruxton track well by taking third.
Andrew Jordan only just failed to make it a Vauxhall 1-2-3 by missing out third spot with 0.028 second.
Colin Turkington was best BMW driver in fifth ahead of the strong returnee Paul O’Neil in the Tech-Speed Motorsport Honda Integra.
Adam Jones claimed seventh position, eight tenths behind Giovanardi, ahead of Team Dynamics’ James Thompson in eight.
Jones’ team mate Dan Eaves claimed ninth ahead of Mat Jackson in the RML prepared Chevrolet Lacetti.
The Airwaves BMW’s of Jonathan Adam and Robert Collard struggled in qualifying after having been on the pace during free practice. Adam is going to start 11th and Collard 12th.
