Giovanardi: “I’m really disappointed!”
Vauxhall man Fabrizio Giovanardi was stripped of his pole position ahead of the British Touring Car Championship race at Donington Park. The Vauxhall of the Italian failed to start up after the scrutineering which resulted in his times being striked.
“I just don’t know what to say. The car was just perfect – until the end when something happened,” said Giovanardi.
“I’m really disappointed as we did such a good job to improve the set up and the car felt great.”
From first to last and a huge job to get up through the field awaits the Italian today.
“Its going to be very hard now to get a good result, but obviously we will still be pushing tomorrow.”
VX Racing technical director Kevin Berry explained the disappointing situation.
“During scrutineering, the car is checked to make sure it abides by a minimum ride height, minimum weight and then must restart again under its own power, and unfortunately Fabrizio’s car wouldn’t restart, so he has had his times deleted.
It’s very frustrating as Fabrizio worked really hard this morning to improve the car and now he has to start from the back.”
But the pole position stayed within the Vauxhall team as young Andrew Jordan inherited the pole.
“I’m really pleased; the circumstances with Fabrizio aren’t ideal but I’m really happy with how the session went. They were probably the best laps I’ve ever driven,” said Jordan.
