Colin Turkington takes Croft pole position

Colin Turkington took pole for the British Touring Car Championship race at Croft tomorrow.
“This is perfect. It’s exactly where we needed to be and with Matt back in eighth it’s looking even better. But it’s only 50 per cent of the job done – there are no guarantees how things will work out on Sunday,” said Turkington to BTCC.net.

The pole time was 1:26.006 which was almost two tenths faster than Jason Plato’s best time.

Turkington’s team mate Stephen Jelley secured two Team RAC BMW’s in the first three places, 0.366 seconds behind.

Adam Jones took an impressive fourth place in his bio ethanol powered SEAT Léon ahead of Chevrolet drivers Mat Jackson and Harry Vaulkhard.

Andrew Jordan was best of the Vauxhall drivers in seventh with team mate Matt Neal right behind in eight.

“The BMWs always really suit the hot conditions like today and I was on the backfoot a bit considering I missed one of the practice sessions this morning with some damage to my car.

I’m not overly disheartened – I’ve given it everything and we’ll just see where we end up tomorrow. There’s a forecast for slightly cooler weather which could bring us right back into it,” said Neal

James Thompson was ninth ahead of top Airwaves BMW driver, Rob Collard, in tenth.

Reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi had a tough qualifying session as he was unable to match the pace in the top and qualified 13th.
