Fans backing needed for grid hopeful
Scottish racer Paul Luti is aiming to use fan power to get himself onto the grid for the BTCC season in 2010. The audacious plan sees Luti seeking modest sponsorship from as many fans as possible in order to purchase, and run, an entry through the entire campaign.
26-year-old Luti has raced MGs for much of his career to-date, and is hoping to continue that trend with the purchase of the MG ZS from BTCC front runners West Surrey Racing. WSR fielded a brace of ZSs a few years ago. This included two years running the cars as the factory backed MG team.
Dreadnought Garage, a Luti family company who specialise in MGs amongst other marques, will run the car in 2010. However, if enough funding can be secured, WSR will also provide technical assistance to boost the competitiveness of the entry.
The experience WSR has of the ZS will be invaluable to Luti. When running the cars from 2001 to 2006 not only did they claim a number of outright race victories, but in 2004 Anthony Reid claimed the Independent Drivers Championship title, as well as 3rd overall in the Teams Championship.
The reward for fans sponsoring Luti with their hard earned cash, is that their name will feature on the car itself at each race meeting. In addition, a prize draw will take place for all sponsors, with the single prize being 2 VIP tickets for a selected round of the 2010 BTCC season.
Fans can be reassured that if for any reason the team does not secure the required funds to run the car, each fan will received their money back.
