Nash positive over attention after crash
James Nash was excluded from his first ever British Touring Car Championship win after having been judged to have unfairly spun Rob Collard at Snetterton. But the 23 year old says that the incident has given him a lot of positive attention.
“Having the win taken away has actually given me a double whammy with the extra media coverage. If all the commentary since had been negative then I’d have been upset but it hasn’t been,” said Nash to BTCC.net.
Nash joined the Silverline team in the RML prepared Chevrolet Lacetti for the race at Oulton Park earlier this year.
While the start has been a bit slow for Nash, who picked up his first ever points at Snetterton, he thinks that the past race weekend has showed that he has got the capability.
“People also saw that I’ve got the speed and capability to mix it at the front so I’m trying to take the positives out of the situation. It’s proved to RML that I’m a serious driver,” said Nash.
The incident with Collard caused a lot of damage on both the Airwaves BMW and the Team RAC BMW of Stephen Jelley, who was unable to avoid the spinning Collard.
“I’m just sorry for the Airwaves BMW and Team RAC lads. They have a lot to do to repair those cars. I’m happy, though, to see Rob and Stephen are OK after the impact. It was a biggie,” said Nash.
Next up for the BTCC is Knockhill where Nash aims to be back at the very front of the field.
“Knockhill is next in ten days and I want to prove that Snetterton was not a one-off. It’ll be business as usual when we get there. I don’t see any reason to change the way I am,” said Nash.
