Chevrolet on top in First Practice
Mat Jackson topped the timesheets in a wet First Practice at Knockhill, heading teammate Jason Plato by seven hundredths of a second. Jonny Adam gave the Scottish fans something to cheer about ending the session third, with Matt Neal in fourth, ahead of Adam’s teammate Rob Collard.
In cool and wet conditions, Jackson topped the times midway through the session recording a 59.076, with the next twelve drivers all within a second of his time.
The sole Seat Leon of Gordon Shedden finished sixth, with Tom Chilton in an excellent seventh position, as the Focus obviously found the tight and twisty Knockhill to its liking, while championship leader Colin Turkington could only manage tenth place.
With Turkington and teammate Stephen Jelley both amongst the drivers completing the most laps in the session, it would appear Team RAC might have been working on setup, with their true pace to be revealed later on in Second Practice and Qualifying.
All but four of the seventeen drivers broke the one-minute barrier, with Harry Vaulkhard, Paul O’Neill, David Pinkney and John George those who failed to do so, though both O’Neill and George only had limited running during the session.
As expected, James Nash, Martyn Bell and Adam Jones all missed out, joining Liam McMillan and Jason Hughes on the BTCC sidelines, while for the second meeting in succession there will be no second Team Aon Ford Focus on the grid.
