Team Aon hoped for podium at Silverstone
Team Aon brought two cars to last weekend’s races at Silverstone for the first time since before the mid-season break, and shocked the paddock with fast times in practice. Unfortunately a race one crash for Tom Onslow-Cole derailed his weekend, but Tom Chilton went on to claim a top five, and the team hoped for a podium in race three.
Team principal Mike Earle said:
“It has been a very encouraging weekend for us. Tom’s 5th place was obviously a highlight and a welcome boost to team morale.
I have to say we had very high hopes for Tom Chilton in the 3rd race, we were confidently expecting a podium finish before he was an unwitting victim of someone else’s accident.”
Tom Onslow-Cole’s weekend was going great up until Saturday afternoon, when a stumble in qualifying 13th place put him in the middle of the pack – and whilst trying to move up was taken out by ‘champion of champions’ Anthony Reid on his BTCC return.
Tom’s comments after the race confirm that it’s not set in stone yet that he’ll be competing for the remainder of the season as yet.
“We didn’t get it right in qualifying, but we’ve learnt what needs to be changed. Overall it’s been great to be back in the BTCC again and I hope I’ll drive the Focus again. I want to thank the team for giving me this opportunity and especially for the work they did to repair the damage after race one.”
