Jason Plato says the title is out of reach
Jason Plato is 42 points behind championship leader Colin Turkington. With more than twice the points still left to be fought over, Plato does not think he is going to be in the title fight.
“The championship is too far away, though. If it comes my way, great, but if it doesn’t then I’m not expecting it to. All we’re doing is that we want to win races and do the best job for our sponsors,” said Plato to Crash.net.
Instead Plato is looking ahead to the next British Touring Car Championship season.
“We’re thinking about the bigger picture of next year,” said Plato.
Two races still remain of the BTCC 2009, Rockingham and the finale at Brands Hatch.
“Rockingham is going to be interesting, because if you’d asked me that question five races ago, out of all the circuits Rockingam is the one where we’re unsure of how we’re going to go.
It’s a quirky place and yes, we’ll be competitive, but I think it might not be our best track on the calendar. Brands GP? Yeah – really looking forward to that – but at Rockingham I think we’re going to have to work hard,” said Plato.
During the last race at Silverstone, the Chevrolet’s claimed a historical 1-2-3, something that has not happened in the BTCC since 1975.
His team mate Mat Jackson was the best point scoring driver of the weekend. But despite the fact that Jackson is further down in the standings, 53 points, Plato is not wanting to consider team orders.
“I wouldn’t sanction or want that, absolutely not. A win is a win, and I wouldn’t accept one that way. That’s not in my make-up; I would never want anyone to do that to me, and I’d never want anyone to do that to Mat or one of my team-mates who deserves a win, not at all,” said Plato.
