Triple Eight not to return to the BTCC?
Triple Eight Race Engineering have been left with an uncertain future after the pull out of Vauxhall at the last round of the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.
In an interview in Motorsport News, team boss Ian Harrison has hinted that they may never return to the series.
Harrison was quoted as saying “We wont be in touring cars as things stand at the moment, and I don’t know if we will ever return.”
Triple Eight was set up 13 years ago by Ian Harrison and former F1 racer Derek Warwick to run the Vauxhall touring car programme, winning many drivers and Manufacturer Championships along the way.
Harrison went on: “Leaving the BTCC is a situation that we have been put in. It is not our decision and I still don’t understand it. It is with a tinge of sadness that we leave, but it is out of our hands.”
There were early rumours that Triple Eight were in line to run the Volvo BTCC programme, but with Harrison’s comments, that now seems unlikely.
Currently Triple Eight will be running the Pro100 series and are looking at venturing into GT Racing within the GT4 class.
