Jelley leaves BTCC for Carrera Cup

Stephen Jelley is not going to take part in the British Touring Car Championship this year. The former WSR driver has joined Carrera Cup Britain with Team Parker Racing.
“I ended the BTCC last year on a good note. But the winter has been really, really difficult and you can only stay where you can afford to be,” said Jelley in a team press release.

Jelley tested the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at Oulton Park recently, his first ever in the car.

“I didn’t know what to expect on the first test, but I was impressed. The power was very good and the car has good low-speed grip,” said Jelley.

With Jelley leaving West Surrey Racing, it adds to the recent speculation that the team might not field three cars in the BTCC 2010 as previously intended.
