Triple Eight test Glew and Smith
Multiple British Touring Car Championship team champions Triple Eight has completed a test at Rockingham with Phil Glew and Dean Smith.
“Both were very impressive. Phil obviously has a fair bit of front-wheel drive experience and made a good account of himself,” said team boss Ian Harrison to Autosport.
The two Brits drove the Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectra with the naturally aspirated S2000 engine.
“Dean, meanwhile, has never driven front-wheel drive before, but he adapted very quickly and was very professional. I’m very happy with what both drivers managed,” said Harrison.
Triple Eight lost their manufacturers contract with Vauxhall ahead of the 2010 season.
But team boss Harrison is working very hard on getting the team on to the grid, with one or two Vauxhall Vectras, this year despite the lack of manufacturer support.
“Of course we’d be very keen to be back in the BTCC this year. But obviously everybody has to find a budget to run and we’re no different. If we can put a deal together with the right driver, then we’ll be there,” said Harrison.
