Kane and co confident for Rockingham
Fresh from his maiden BTCC win, Steven Kane is hoping to continue where he left off at Thruxton, with his BMW far more suited to Rockingham. The rear wheel drive machine won twice at the Corby circuit in 2009, and Kane hopes to continue that run in 2010.
“If it’s sunny, then I have really high hopes,” said the Airwaves BMW man. “Rockingham is a good solid track for the BMW with lots of traction through the hairpin. We should be able to get on the throttle earlier and carry some decent speed were others may struggle for grip.
““We’re going in to the practice session with a mixture of set-ups, the team were very quick here last year so hopefully we’ve learnt something.”
Teammate Mat Jackson is a former Rockingham winner; having taken the honours in race two in 2008 while driving his family run BMW. The 28-year-old is enjoying life so far this season, but is keen to claim his first win of the year.
“The car was so quick at Thruxton so Rockingham should be very interesting. The hairpin and chicane suit the BMW; we should be able to carry some decent speed through there and with that be in a position to overtake.
“After two podiums in the last race I’m hungry for more. I want a top three finish in every race, and a win would go down well too.”
The Henley-in-Arden racer is in confident mood despite arguably his main opponent for the title having ‘manufacturer’ backing.
“It’d be a very brave man who walked into the bookies and put all their money on him at such an early stage of the season,” said Jackson to the official BTCC website in reference to the title favourite Jason Plato.
“Any talk about giving the trophy to Jason now just because Fabrizio is gone is very wrong. We’ve only done three races – there are 27 left.”
Come Sunday night and there’ll be 24 races left this season, and a clearer picture of the BTCC title battle will be beginning to slowly emerge.
