Phil Glew leaves Triple Eight amid sponsor issues
Sponsorship issues at Triple Eight mean Phil Glew will not be racing at Rockingham, despite a solid debut round at Thruxton.
Uniq Racing’s withdrawal of support of Triple Eight Race Engineering, despite two race wins for the former works squad at the season opener, means Glew joins Fabrizio Giovanardi in leaving the team.
Glew announced:
“I’m devastated to be out of the car at this early stage in the season. My main efforts are now focused on putting together a concrete package which suits WD-40, myself, and our other sponsors to enable us to begin racing again and continue our fantastic relationship.”
Phil still has strong backing from WD-40, who will continue to support him.
Head of Marketing for WD-40, David Whittome said:
“We fully support Phil Glew and recognise his fantastic potential in motor sport and will be working hard to find ways in which we can continue to work with him in the future.”
This means Triple Eight will have an all new line-up for the second race of the season, with James Nash already confirmed to return to the BTCC – with sponsorship from the UK distribution company behind the DVD & Blu-Ray release of Avatar, appearing on the 888 Vectra this weekend.
It remains to be seen whether Triple Eight will field their second car at Rockingham at this late stage, or run just the one for Nash.
