Chilton takes first ever LPG pole
Tom Chilton has taken a historic first pole position in the BTCC for a car powered by liquefied petroleum gas.
Chilton will be joined on the front row by Honda Racing Team’s Matt Neal.
Alex MacDowell, in only his second BTCC race, outqualified experienced team mate Jason Plato to put the Chevrolet Cruze in third place for the first round tomorrow.
The highest driver in the championship, Jason Plato – will start fifth behind the Team Aon Ford Focus of Tom Onslow-Cole.
James Nash, on his return and after only a few familiarisation laps in the Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectra, qualified an impressive sixth.
