WSR happy with progress
WSR are happy with their progress shown at Rockingham, with both drivers able to put in better performances in the BMW’s.
After a relatively troublesome Thruxton, the shining light only being Rob Collard looking set for a possible win, before a collision with Matt Neal took both drivers out, the team finished all races at Rockingham.
Rob Collard also won the independents class in race two, as well as challenging Jason Plato for the win.
Rob Collard said:
“We didn’t make the right choice of tyres at the beginning of race one which wasn’t a good start to the weekend. The balance of the car was good though and I was really pleased to set fastest lap.”
“The set-up on the BMW was great in race two as well, meaning we had good pace throughout. If it’d been one lap longer I would have won, so I’m really confident heading to Brands Hatch next weekend.”
“I’m delighted to get a podium for WSR this weekend and my first Independent win of the year for my sponsors HM Plant, Contour Electronics and Whitmore’s.”
Team Manager Dick Bennetts, said of the team’s run at Rockingham:
“It was a good weekend for the team, again maintaining our 100% reliability record with the BMW 320si. There was great teamwork in the pitstop as well; to change all four wheels in less than 20 seconds is pretty special.”
“Andy is making fantastic progress, getting quicker every race and there’s still a lot more to come from him. His points in race 3 were well deserved, but it was his pace that was even more impressive.”
“Rob had a storming drive in race 2; looking after his tyres till the end and with another lap we would have won. After being 11th on lap one of race 3 he drove another blinder to finish 6th. Rob still holds the lap record on the Brands Hatch GP circuit, going back to when he drove for us in 2005, so he’ll be right up there next weekend.”
