Chilton on top after Snetterton test
Team Aon’s Tom Chilton was fastest in the rain affected aftertoon session. It dried off enough to allow Chilton to set the fastest time by over a second in his Ford Focus.
Tom Chilton was over a second faster in the final reckoning, as drivers initially avoided going out onto the circuit which had seen a heavy downpour after the morning session, and stayed wet well into the session.
Some teams & drivers decided not to take to the circuit at all considering the conditions – eventually leaving just 11 drivers to set laps, where 16 had competed in the morning session.
In the final moments as the circuit was drying out, the LPG powered Ford Focus ST of Tom Chilton, eclipsed the time set by Alex MacDowell earlier in the day, with a lap of 1:11.408. This would keep the 25-year old on top of the timesheets at the end of the session, ahead of the Triple Eight Race Engineering Vauxhall Vectra of James Nash by 1.025 seconds.
Third fastest again was Jason Plato, in the Silverline Chevrolet, though team mate Alex MacDowall’s time in the morning was the second fastest of anyone of the day.
This is the final test before the next round of the championship at the Snetteron circuit on August 8th, after a seven week break.
