Chilton leads in damp first free practice at Silverstone

The first free practice session for this weekends meeting of the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone has been completed, with Tom Chilton setting the fastest time around a damp National circuit.

Chilton was fastest, setting a lap of 1:01.084 in the Team Aon Ford Focus ST, three-hundredths of a second ahead of Andrew Jordan in the Pirtek Racing Vauxhall Vectra

Mat Jackson was third for Airwaves BMW, with Gordon Shedden the first of the manufacturer entries fourth in the Honda Civic, just ahead of championship leader Jason Plato’s Chevrolet.

Rob Collard set the most laps in the West Surrey Racing BMW, which ended up sixth.

Phil Glew on his return to the BTCC, set a few installation laps early in the session, and then increased his workload in the last 20 minutes of the practice session to complete 25 laps in the NGTC-powered SEAT Leon, and ended up 16th just 0.923 behind Chilton’s time.

Lea Wood, though present at the track didn’t set a time in the Central Group Racing Honda Integra, whilst Martin Johnson will miss the days activities due to a personal engagement, but will take part on Sunday starting from last on the grid.
