Honda on target to repair Shedden’s car for race

The Honda Racing Team look set to be able to repair Gordon Shedden’s car for race day, despite a 130mph crash this morning which caused heavy front-end damage to the Civic.

The team have been working non-stop on repairing the heavily damaged car since the morning’s free practice session. Shedden’s car isn’t likely to make the qualifying session, but should be repaired for race day, which will see the Scotsman start from the back of the grid for race 1.

Team Principal Steve Neal’s first reaction this morning was that the car was a write-off, and that the team would have to recover one of last year’s cars for Shedden to be able to race in two weeks time at Donington Park.

In a new update, Honda’s Team Manager Peter Crolla has confirmed the car should be able to race, though the team are unable to identify what caused the crash in this morning’s practice session.

The initial belief was that it was a puncture, though it’s possible it may have been the result of a mechanical failure, but it’s not possible to determine at present due to the condition of the car.

Honda switched focus to running race distances for remaining driver Matt Neal in the second free practice session, whilst Shedden had to watch on from the pit wall.
