Griffin and Plato fighting to make race three
Liam Griffin and Jason Plato’s cars are still being repaired, after an incident on the opening lap caused heavy damage to the Motorbase and Chevrolet cars.
As the cars bunched up at the beginning of the race, an incident involving Liam Griffin, Jason Plato and Gordon Shedden saw the reigning champion’s car wrecked in a roll and Griffin’s car take heavy front-end damage.
Honda Racing Driver Gordon Shedden was involved in the incident, starting from the back after a penalty in race one.
“It was a case of too many cars, and not enough road,” said Shedden to TouringCarTimes.
“I’m actually on the brakes when the contact’s made, and he (Griffin) just moves across a bit. He doesn’t move across much, it was ever so the slightest tap but it’s enough so that he goes. He was trying to get his best line going into Craners, but potentially I’m in his blindspot already there.”
“I think Jason was trying to pass Gilham in front of him, and Griffin probably trying to do the right thing lifted off a bit, but then of course he was going so much slower, and he’d moved to the left and I just went into gap that was there, and then he just tried to come back a little bit.”
Motorbase Performance’s new driver Liam Griffin says there was nothing he can do, after being caught in the firs lap bunching.
“There were obviously a lot of cars going into that first corner,” said Griffin
“They all bunched up on the inside so I went on the outside, so I had the inside coming up to Craners, and literally as I was coming up to the brow, I got a massive hit on the outside, and it just shot straight right on me.”
“I was a complete passenger, nothing I can do, and obviously Jason was on the right next to me, and I’ve just driven straight into the side of him. We were then flown off into the bottom of Craners, I managed to stop, he didn’t.”
Griffin’s unsure whether he will make the final race.
“If they turn this one around, it’s going to be a minor miracle. It’s broken the suspension arm…the initial reaction when they brought it back in was go and get changed.”
