Foster picks up first points after scary off

Nick Foster picked up his first points for West Surrey Racing in a frenetic race three, just a few hours after a hair-raising incident for Foster at the Craner Curves.

The Craners were the source of much incident this weekend, and Nick Foster had an accident which featured much potential to be a lot nastier, spinning off after racing side-by-side with fellow BTCC rookie Jeff Smith.

The WSR BMW 320si looking like it could even roll after digging into the gravel trap before crossing the track backwards at high-speed in race two.

Foster’s car passed just in front of the Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectra of Tony Gilham as it bounced across the circuit, but recovered to the pits to come out again in race three.

“It was an accident,” said Foster to TouringCarTimes.

“I had to make a decision whether I was going to try to stick with him (Smith) around Craners and have the line into the Old Hairpin, and I decided to do that, and obviously when you go through the dip the compression moved his car a bit to the left and just gave me a tap. I thought we’d done it, but we clearly hadn’t!”

Foster bounced back in race three to finish tenth in a race of attrition.

“I came here this weekend hoping to get a top ten, obviously race two wasn’t going to let that happen, but we got there from 17th on the grid.”

“There was a bit of carnage, I played it safe a bit to begin with, but I knew the tyres would come back.”

“It was a good race, and I was happy to get us points.”
