Matt Neal on top in second free practice

Honda Racing Team driver Matt Neal was fastest in the final free practice session heading into this afternoon’s qualifying, with Tom Chilton’s Arena Motorsport Ford Focus second and Jeff Smith third in the Eurotech Racing Vauxhall Vectra.

Neal’s best lap was 1:18.154 in a session which was red flagged briefly to recover Frank Wrathall’s Dynojet Racing Toyota, which had broken suspension after running hard over the kerbs at the Club Chicane.

Reigning champion Jason Plato was just outside the top three in the Chevrolet Cruze, 0.241 down on Neal’s best lap.

Points leader James Nash was tenth fastest, 1.2s down in the Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectra.

The top eight cars were all covered within eight-tenths of a second, with Andrew Jordan, Gordon Shedden, Tom Boardman and Andy Neate completing the top eight, seven-tenths down on the leader’s time.

Qualifying for Round 7 is scheduled to take place at 15:10 BST.
