Onslow-Cole elated with best qualifying for AmD Milltek

Tom Onslow-Cole qualified in sixth place and will line-up alongside the Silverline Chevrolet of Jason Plato for tomorrow’s race in a season that keeps getting better and better for the small independent Essex-based team.

Onslow-Cole’s best lap of 1:18.122 put the New Malden-driver in sixth place, with drivers such as Mat Jackson, Tom Boardman, James Nash and Alex MacDowall within a few places behind.

Tom believes the result is a great sign considering the continuing development at AmD Milltek Racing in their sophomore British Touring Car season.

“We’re really encouraged that already we’re up to the top six and we’ve still got areas we can work on,” said Onslow-Cole to TouringCarTimes.

“The car is not perfect, there’s still areas we can improve in but we’re three races in…every time we go out we’re trying something and generally it’s working for us and getting better and better.”

“Generally every year you have a bit of a rival or rivalry with someone, but because we keep moving forward it’s changing. We’re up there with the guys that I’ve raced with at the front with before and raced for the championship last year.”

There was a slight scare for the team, as the car lost a window right at the end of the first free practice session whilst the spares were still en route to the circuit, and cut it close to make it out in free practice two.

“It was quite bizarre losing the window out on circuit. I was just following one of the BMWs and a bit of a rubber or something came off the back the car and just clipped the window and I saw it shatter. It was okay, but as I was going through Church and it just fell out.”

“But we got it done, got out there and had another productive test and only missed a few minutes at the start, so credit to the team there for sorting that out.”
