Matt Neal wins Thruxton race two
Matt Neal has extended his championship lead with a race two victory at Thruxton ahead of the Eurotech Racing Vauxhall of Andrew Jordan, with Shedden holding on to third.
The two Hondas started from the front-row after their 1-2 victory in race one, with Shedden leading Matt Neal at the start. Neal managed to close down on his team-mate, who was carrying an additional 9kg in this race, and took the lead out of Brooklands on lap six.
Shedden lost second place to Andrew Jordan on lap 10, as the Vauxhall driver got a great run on the Honda Civic through the final chicane and passed Shedden down the start/finish straight.
Shedden then had to defend against the Ford Focus of Tom Chilton for the final laps, which saw the Scotsman keep the final position on the podium.
At the back, Jason Plato made good progress through the field, passing five cars on the first lap and eventually ended up in eighth place behind his team-mate Alex MacDowall.
There was contact on the ninth lap as MacDowall nudged the rear of the West Surrey Racing BMW of Rob Collard into Club, spinning the BMW. Collard would go on to finish out of the points in 14th place.
Only 18 cars would make the start with problems for both of the Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) entries of Frank Wrathall and Rob Austin. Tom Onslow-Cole also failed to make the start with a last minute problem with a broken exhaust maniford on his VW Golf.
The only retirement was for Chris James’ Chevrolet Lacetti, pulling into the pits on lap three with what appeared to be a front-left puncture brought about by a mechanical failure.
The final race of the day is scheduled to take place at 17:15 BST.
