Shedden leads Honda 1-2 at Thruxton race one
Gordon Shedden led a lights to flag victory for the Honda Racing Team at Thruxton, with Matt Neal finishing in second place, whilst there’s more misery for Jason Plato as he retires with two laps to go.
Shedden lead from pole position and held firm ahead of the Eurotech Vauxhall of Andrew Jordan, with Matt Neal in third – whilst Plato initially lost a position to Mat Jackson’s Motorbase Performance Ford.
On lap four, Matt Neal passed Jordan at Campbell to take P2, and Shedden relinquished the lead to give his team-mate a point for leading a lap at the end of lap 13.
As the race went on, more pace seemed to come back to the Chevrolet as Plato moved back ahead of Jackson and closed down on the fourth placed Arena Motorsport Ford Focus of Tom Chilton, but retired at the end of lap 14, crashing out with a puncture.
This promoted Special Tuning Racing driver Tom Boardman to fifth place, with Jackson and Onslow-Cole close behind.
Former Championship leader James Nash finished in eighth, but now drops behind Matt Neal in the championship standings heading into the second race of the weekend.
The two Hondas will be awarded maximum ballast of 45kg for Shedden and 36kg for Neal, as they will start from the front row for race two at 14:10 BST.
