Tough weekend for Dynojet Racing
Frank Wrathall and Dynojet Racing had a weekend to forget at Thruxton, with two DNFs and a non-start after more mechanical issues, but continues to find more speed with each weekend.
The new Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) Avensis had no off season testing, which has thrown the new outfit along with the other two NGTC teams in at the deep-end for the opening three meetings of the championship.
The car’s showing good race pace, with the team’s X CTech-R-built, Toyota-based engine getting the Avensis to within a second of the fastest lap of the day.
Overheating issues unfortunately forced the car out of the first and third races early, and wasn’t able to start race two whilst the team tried to fix the problem.
“It was going really well,” said Wrathall after race one.
“I was making up places and setting my sights on the cars ahead, and then the engine temperature shot up and it went into ‘limp mode’.”
“The frustrating thing is that I know the Toyota is capable of even better, and I am just longing for the opportunity to prove the point.”
The team now has a five week gap before the next race at Oulton Park to work on the cars issues, along with the BTCC’s other new NGTC teams, Rob Austin Racing and Speedworks Motorsport.
