WSR enjoy best weekend of the season at Croft
West Surrey Racing’s Rob Collard and Nick Foster had a great run at Croft, with Collard on the podium in all three races and Foster claiming his first podium in the final race of the day.
The two drivers showed great teamwork, with Foster allowing Collard through in race three to try and attack Mat Jackson’s Focus, but gave the position back to his team-mate on the final lap.
“Unlike some teams in motorsport we’re quite happy for our guys to race each other, although obviously as long as they don’t take each other off!” said WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts.
“In this case Rob came on the radio and told us he felt he was quicker than Nick and would like to try to get past Mat Jackson. We relayed this to Nick who then let Rob through.”
“Although Rob had a couple of goes, he couldn’t get past Mat, and waved yellows at the final bend meant he couldn’t do it on the last lap. Coming onto the finish straight he very sportingly gave Nick back the place.”
Bennetts also expressed that he’s not certain the championship is at parity yet, despite the normally aspirated BMW’s success at Croft, but is hopeful a mid-season review by TOCA will come up with new revisions.
“Croft has definitely been a ‘happy hunting ground’ for WSR over the past few years as the nature of the circuit really suits the BMW’s superior handling and braking. We’ve got a good set-up in the wet and dry, having had 14 podiums there with our BMW’s since 2007,” said Bennetts.
“The reduction in the turbo boost last weekend was very welcome, but we feel it needs to be reduced a bit more to get closer to ‘parity’. (Series Director) Alan Gow has appointed an independent technical committee to go over all the data from the first half of the season during the coming seven week break. We hope they’ll come up with a formula to see great racing between all types of cars in the latter half of the Championship.”
