Honda confirm NGTC Civic entry for 2012

Honda will remain in the British Touring Car Championship in 2012, with Team Dynamics building a brand new Honda Civic built to the championship’s Next Generation Touring Car specifications.

The team will use the new 2012 Honda Civic, which is due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.

Team Dynamics will become the first manufacturer backed team to build a car to the new NGTC-specifications.

“We are all looking forward to 2012, and from my point of view it is very exciting to have the prospect of driving the new Honda Civic,” said Honda Racing Team driver Matt Neal.

“The team’s development of the car is already well underway, and the new Civic will fit the BTCC’s ‘Next Generation Touring Car’ regulations. I’m sure it will keep Honda at the front, and in the winner’s circle, both off and on track!”

Team Dynamics have already switched to the new NGTC engine regulations as of this season, with engine builders Neil Brown developing a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine which is based on that used in the Civic. So far the team have won eight out of 18 races, which has given them the lead in the manufacturers’ championship, and both drivers currently second and third in the drivers’ points.

“We are delighted to enter the new Civic in next year’s BTCC, and hope to build on the success we’ve already had with the current model,” said Dave Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda UK.

“The Civic is the perfect model to compete in British Touring Cars, as it has been born and bred in the UK. The new car has been tested on more UK roads than any other Honda, and it will continue to be built exclusively in Swindon.”
