Caine happy with qualifying on BTCC debut
BTCC newcomer Michael Caine is happy with his performance in qualifying, using Motorbase team-mate Mat Jackson as a benchmark.
Caine is making his BTCC debut with Motorbase Performance this weekend as the team expand to field three cars for the first time. Caine qualified 19th of the 25 runners in qualifying, 1.1 seconds down on pole sitter Jason Plato, whilst independent points leading team-mate Mat Jackson qualified 9th and Liam Griffin 25th.
“It’s one of those one, I can only govern myself on Mat Jackson at the moment and Mat’s four-tenths up on me, so from that point of view I need to make those four-tenths up and be the same as Mat. It’s not a bad goal post just to get there, if Mat can’t get up on the front row around here,” said Caine to TouringCarTimes.
“It (the rain) made a little difference at the start, but for me, I’d always get two sectors right and one sector wrong, and that was the difference between probably getting up to P12 or P13. The car can definitely run there, I’m not sure if it can run any faster with me in it.”
