Thorney completes first test with NGTC Vauxhall Insignia
Thorney Motorsport completed the first test day with the NGTC specification Vauxhall Insignia at Donington Park yesterday.
“With a new car you really don’t know what to expect but to have its first shakedown and test be so positive is a real shot in the arm after Silverstone. We plan at least two more tests before Christmas as we fine tune the chassis, so our plans of being fully ready ahead of the new season are very achievable,” said Team Principal John Thorne.
John Thorne was also driver of the car during the test day and reported that he was pleased with the first proper taste of the car.
“I’ve never raced front-wheel-drive before so I really didn’t know what to expect. I’ve been pretty dismissive of FWD in the past but I was blown away by how the car felt, it felt brilliant,” said Thorne.
The car was run in black, green and red during the test, the colors of Thorney Motorsport. The Batman livery visible on the car in the BTCC finale at Silverstone was a one-off thing.
“The batmobile was always for a laugh really, but racing is expensive so we do need sponsors. The plan is to run the car in our usual livery until we can finalise our partner programme for next season,” said Thorne.
